Tide times widget for your website

Run a sauna on the strand, a surf school, a campsite or a sea swimming club? Put today’s high and low water on your own site. Pick your beach or harbour, copy one short piece of code, paste it into your page. It shows the tide curve with the time now, the next high or low water with a countdown, and up to three days of times.

Times come from the Galway gauge, 2 km away, the same as on the Salthill page.

How to add it

Paste it into your site builder

  • In WordPress, edit the page, add a Custom HTML block and paste the code.
  • In Wix, go to Add Elements, then Embed Code, then Embed HTML. Paste the code, then drag the box to about 560 by 420 pixels so the whole card shows.
  • In Squarespace, add a Code block and paste. If scripts do not run on your plan, switch to the iframe version above.
  • In Google Sites, choose Insert, then Embed, then the Embed code tab.
  • On a plain HTML page, paste it where the card should appear. You can place several widgets on one page; the script only needs to be there once.

Stuck? Email hello@tidetimes.ie with a link to your page and we will tell you what to change.

Questions

About the widget

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on page views. The only thing we ask is that you keep the small link under the widget, because that is how your visitors find the full week and the 30-day calendar.

Where do the times come from?

From the Marine Institute tide predictions, the same ones every page on this site uses. A beach without its own gauge takes the times of the nearest one, and the widget says which gauge and how far away. Weather can push the real level above or below the prediction, so allow a margin.

Does it update by itself?

Yes. New predictions come in every night, and the widget works out today and the time now on the visitor’s own device, so a page left open since yesterday still shows the right day.

Does it set cookies or show ads?

No. The widget has no ads and no Google Analytics, and it sets no cookies, so it does not change what you need in your own cookie notice. The only thing we measure is how many times it loads, with Cloudflare’s cookieless counter.

How big is it?

It fits anything from 300 to 560 pixels wide. With the script version the height adjusts to the content. With the iframe version the height is fixed, and the code already has the right number for the days you picked.

The tide data are the Marine Institute’s predictions under CC BY 4.0, and the widget credits them in its footer. More on the data in how we check.
